Massachusetts has filed a landmark lawsuit against the federal government over the legality of DOMA. DOMA - or Defense of Marriage Act - defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, which directly conflicts with Massachusetts' marriage equality laws. The commonwealth's attorney general calls DOMA "overreaching" and "discriminatory." It's more than likely this federal suit could go all the way to the Supreme Court. By the time that happens, we could have a new associate justice, which means we should probably be seeking her input (opinion) on marriage equality.
