Oprah Is TV's News Of The Day

When Oprah Winfrey speaks, she makes waves.  Tomorrow she is expected to announce on her show that she will be stepping aside from The Oprah Winfrey Show, which airs daily on over 200 television stations.  Though the reason for the decision wasn't made public today, it's no secret she is working on developing OWN:  The Oprah Winfrey Network.

OWN is a joint venture with Discovery Communications and will replace the company's Discovery Health channel in 2011.  While Discovery may be celebrating the "win" in their eyes, CBS Television Distribution is vying for an Oprah comeback.  CBS makes a good chunk of change on Oprah's daily show.  A spokesman said Thursday they are still working with Oprah to develop a new show that would be broadcast from Los Angeles.

We've already been promised the "next 20 months" on The Oprah Winfrey Show will "make history."  Meanwhile, this leaves the door wide open for Ellen DeGeneres to take over as the official queen of daytime talk.  The final episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show will air September 9, 2011.
