Kennedy Center Honors Being Presented Tonight

Right now in Washington, the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony is being taped.  Receiving the honors tonight are rocker Bruce Springsteen, Robert De Niro, Mel Brooks, jazz pianist Dave Brubeck and opera singer Grace Bumbry.  The annual ceremony is held as a living memorial to John F. Kennedy and honors greats in American culture.

Glee's Matthew Morrison was on hand to help honor Brooks.  Morrison - or more affectionately known as Mr. Shue - said he admired Brooks for his never being afraid of approaching and crossing the line for comedy.  He called the comedic genius "a living legend."

Secretary of State Hilary Clinton hosted a dinner on Saturday for the weekend-long event.  When asked about Springsteen's contribution to the American culture, she cited a 160,000-strong concert in East Berlin just 16 months before the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The televised Kennedy Center Honors will air on CBS on December 29th.
