UK Picks Gay Icons

Elton John.  Judy Garland.  This won't come as a surprise, but those are the biggest gay icons according to Daily Mirror readers.  Five-thousand gay men and lesbians were interviewed for the poll.

Other males making the poll include Freddie Mercury, George Michael, Oscar Wilde, Boy George and David Beckham.  On the female gay icons list, Garland was joined by Madonna, Cher, Liza, Babs and Kylie.

I think, perhaps, the poll had an errant title.  Maybe it should have been called "Gay Entertainment Icons."  What about real icons in the GLBT community?  What about Harvey Milk?  Larry Kramer?  Cyndi Lauper?  Barney Frank?  Bette Midler?  Maybe the latter two were left off because they are more influential and iconic here in the states, but I digress.
