'SNL' And A Betty White Shout Out

So It Was All A Hoax?!

For a couple of months, rumors have been off and on that Steven Tyler was out of Aerosmith for good.  Now, he's planning to tour with the rockers this year.  The "Cocked, Locked and Ready to Rock" tour will hit Europe this Summer.

In a video posted to the band's web-site, they claim they're back together again, but honestly, can a two-month separation really be long enough to even consider them separated???

And I Thought My Facebook Dumping Last Week Was Bad!!!!

So I was dumped last week via a Facebook status update!  But that doesn't compare to this!!!

Kathy Griffin On Your TV, At PrideFest

Two pieces of Kathy Griffin news that you need to know from the past week.  First, she'll be on Law & Order: SVU on Wednesday (3/3/10).  Kathy plays a lesbian rights group leader who believes a murder happened due to police neglect.  "P.C." is the title of the episode and it airs Wednesday at 9 p.m. Eastern on NBC.  Oh, and there will apparently be a Kathy-on-girl kiss in the episode.

Second, it was announced this week Kathy would be the Friday night headliner at Milwaukee's PrideFest in June.  Other acts haven't yet been announced, but they're sure to be big names for Saturday night, at least.  This blogger - should he not go completely bankrupt in Vegas this Spring - fully intends to attend PrideFest this year.

You can get more information about PrideFest at their web-site (click here).

B4A Top Ten: A Photo Finish

Last week we predicted a change atop the B4A Top Ten, but surprise of surprises, Lady GaGa pulls out a Winter miracle.  The last few weeks were trending towards a Train takeover, but they fall short and it's starting to look like Lady Antebellum has more momentum.  And Owl City is falling more slowly than we first thought he would.  It's good to see Orianthi enter the Top Ten; a song that will be around for a while.  Also see anomaly appearances this week from Elton John and Madonna.
  1. Lady GaGa - "Bad Romance"
  2. Train - "Hey, Soul Sister"
  3. Lady Antebellum - "Need You Now"
  4. Owl City - "Fireflies"
  5. Black Eyed Peas - "I Gotta Feeling"
  6. Elton John - "If I Never Knew You"
  7. Big Country - "In A Big Country"
  8. Madonna - "Dress You Up"
  9. Lifehouse - "Halfway Gone"
  10. Orianthi - "According To You"
The B4A Top Ten is a mash-up of pop hits and not-so-pop songs based on radio airplay, online chatter, digital downloads and plays on this blogger's iPod and iTunes.  You can influence the B4A Top Ten by downloading songs from iTunes, using your iPhone to search via Shazam and Midomi, synching your iTunes plays to Last.FM and talking about your favorite songs on Twitter.

Food Network, Redux

Do you sit around for days on end watching Food Network?  You are the target viewer for the new The Cooking Channel.  Food parent Scripps Networks is developing the channel and plans to launch Memorial Day weekend.  Bobby Flay and Rachel Ray have already lined up new programming for The Cooking Channel.

To make way for The Cooking Channel, Scripps is dumping Fine Living Network after it has struggled in ratings since launching earlier in the decade.  Cooking will get back to basics, while Food has moved towards competition and reality-style programming.

New York Times has the full story here.

iTunes Turns 10,000,000,000

CORRECTION:  We are changing the phrasing in this story to indicate iTunes has reached 10-Billion downloads rather than songs "sold."  Thanks to Consumerist for pointing this out.

Earlier today, iTunes experienced it's 10-Billionth song downloaded.  The lucky customer that purchased the milestone song wins a $10,000 iTunes gift card.  And, honestly, if you were to download $10,000 worth of iTunes products right now, you could purchase a thousand music videos, 3500 songs, a hundred movies AND 800 TV episodes.  And that would still leave you $50 to fiddle with later!

In releasing the news, iTunes also announced their 25 biggest selling single songs of all time.  Interestingly, however, the top 25 is indicative of how iTunes continues to gain popularity.  All but one of the top 25 songs sold on iTunes was released in the past five years.  The one that wasn't was Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," which gained renewed popularity with plays on The Sopranos and Glee.

Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" was the single song that sold more copies than any other since iTunes started selling digital downloads.  Lady GaGa, Coldplay and Leona Lewis also ranked in the top ten.  You can see the full list over at Billboard (click here).

Dana Delaney's Quote Of The Week

Advocate.com has an amazing quote from Dana Delaney.  She plays Katherine Mayfair on ABC's Desperate Housewives.  Her character is experimenting sexually.
I just want it to be true, you know. I think it would be fun if Katherine did decide that she was gay. I don’t know if that’s going to happen, though, because story lines change a lot on the set. If anything, I think Marc is interested in playing the complexity of that. The moment you cross that line of having sex with someone -- and I think there’s a lot of people who’ve been there [laughs], where you wake up and go, 'Oh, my God. What did I just do? And what happens after that?' I think that's familiar to people.
Desperate Housewives airs Sundays at 9 p.m. Eastern on ABC.

ABC, CBS Making Deep Cuts

Here's a challenge for you over the next few months.  Watch ABC News and CBS News programs to see if you notice a difference.  Watch for reporter changes, missing reporters and possible noticeable on-air changes.  Both news divisions are making deep cuts this year to stay afloat in a down economy.  NBC News had similar troubles over the last couple years, but had MSNBC and CNBC to fall back on for talent and resources.

ABC News announced today they would lay off about 10-percent of their workforce in favor of so-called "one-man-band" style reporting and refining processes.  President David Westin told staffers via e-mail to expect "a fundamental transformation" of operations.

Offers for voluntary buyouts begin immediately and layoffs will likely come later.  Read the full AP story here.

Becki Newton Finds A New Home

Becki Newton has found a new home at NBC.  After ABC announced they wouldn't bring Ugly Betty back for another season, the stars were free to pursue other opportunities.  NBC picked up Newton rather quickly for a role on the pilot for Love Bites.

Entertainment Weekly reports Newton will play Annie, an "infectiously bubbly hopeless romantic who also happens to be a virgin."  The pilot was developed by Cindy Chupack (of Sex and the City fame).

Here's hoping a couple other soon-to-be big stars find new homes, including Mark Indelicato and Michael Urie.  The latter has already landed on Broadway in The Temperamentals, but we need to see more of him on the small screen.

Ugly Betty airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. Eastern on ABC.

Andrew Will Finally Return To Wisteria Lane

One of Wisteria Lane's resident gays will return to Desperate Housewives in March.  As we sit here awaiting an all new show tonight, we read about Andrew's - Bree's son - return to the show.  Since he was dropped as a regular (shortly after purchasing a home on Wisteria Lane with his partner), we haven't seen much of him despite being in Bree's employ.

Executive Producer Bob Daily confirmed to Zap2It last week that Andrew would return for a several-episode arc beginning in March.  And, as always, the story includes a fight between mother and son.

Desperate Housewives airs Sundays at 9 p.m. Eastern on ABC.

'SNL,' Betty White Close To Deal

Entertainment Weekly is reporting Betty White is close to striking a deal with NBC and Saturday Night Live.  The magazine says her deal won't have her hosting the skit show solo, but would have her included in an all-star female "women of comedy" show.

Lorne Michaels is reportedly also lining up Molly Shannon, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to co-host with White.  Over the past few weeks, there has been a major push to get the former Golden Girl on as host at SNL and show runners are apparently listening to demand.  And this fits right in with rumors that Fey will return with more Sarah Palin-inspired bits this season.

Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:35 on NBC.

The Hypocrites At FOX News

The hypocrites at FOX News think it is perfectly acceptable to ambush progressives while they work, but if you try to ask a FOX ambusher about it, he'll call foul.  Think Progress has video from last week's CPAC convention.  They attempted to confront Griff Jenkins, but he's "working here."  The full post is here.  The video follows.

B4A Top Ten: GaGa Loses More Ground

The B4A Top Ten is back for another week with Lady GaGa at the top.  This is her eighth and, possibly, last week at the top.  Train is close on her heels, but Lady Antebellum made an impressive leap to third.  Owl City is as good as gone, but should be in the Top Ten a couple more weeks.  And appearances by James Taylor, Ben Folds and Maroon 5 on the Top Ten this week.
  1. Lady GaGa - "Bad Romance"
  2. Train - "Hey, Soul Sister"
  3. Lady Antebellum - "Need You Now"
  4. Owl City - "Fireflies"
  5. Black Eyed Peas - "I Gotta Feeling"
  6. James Taylor - "Carolina On My Mind"
  7. Maroon 5 - "Goodnight Goodnight"
  8. Eric Hutchinson - "Rock & Roll"
  9. Ben Folds Five - "Brick"
  10. Lady GaGa - "Poker Face"
The B4A Top Ten is compiled each week by pulling together digital download, radio airplay, record sales and online chatter data, throwing it into the mix with iPhone audio search data and plays on this blogger's iPod and iTunes.  Then point totals are assigned and stacked to show the ten most popular songs in the opinion of B4A.  Don't like it?  Comment away.

Sunday's 'Brothers & Sisters'

Kathy Najimy Comes To 'Betty'

Even though it's on the way out at ABC, Ugly Betty isn't slowing down.  The show has signed Kathy Najimy to play Betty's orthodontist.  Najimy's character will be the special doctor who comes in to remove Betty's braces.

The same episode will feature an It's A Wonderful Life-style fantasy sequence, which will also feature Najimy.  She'll show Betty what would have happened in her life had she not had braces in the first place.

The Kathy Najimy episode of Ugly Betty should air March 24th on ABC.

March is a busy month for Ben Folds.  The singer/songwriter is hitting the road again in support of 2008's Way to Normal.  The March dates take Folds to the southeastern US and the mid-Atlantic, including Myrtle Beach, Orlando and Washington, DC.

There will, however, be one performance on the tour that stands out.  On March 25th, Folds takes his show to Raleigh, NC, where he will be joined on stage by North Carolina Symphony.  Previously, Folds has performed with Boston Pops and the National Symphony Orchestra.

B4A Top Ten: A Top Five Shake-Up

While Lady GaGa retains the top spot on this week's B4A Top Ten, her score is her lowest in two months - a sign we may have a new #1 next week.  Train gets enough attention this week to overtake Owl City for the second spot on the Top Ten and Lady Antebellum soars!  And a debut in the Top Ten from Jason Walker.
  1. Lady GaGa - "Bad Romance"
  2. Train - "Hey, Soul Sister"
  3. Owl City - "Fireflies"
  4. Black Eyed Peas - "I Gotta Feeling"
  5. Lady Antebellum - "Need You Now"
  6. Lady GaGa - "Poker Face"
  7. Kelly Clarkson - "Already Gone"
  8. Jason Walker - "My Life"
  9. Jay-Z - "Empire State Of Mind"
  10. Iyaz - "Replay"
The B4A Top Ten is compiled each week by assigning a very meaningful point value to each song we're listening to here at B4A.  Then we add in radio airplay, digital download, online chatter and iPhone audio search data to bring you the B4A Top Ten.  So there.
